Electronic Transmission Controls (Transmission Control Module = TCM)
Most modern vehicles are completely computer-controlled. This includes several electronic control modules, for engine management, drivetrain management, and also transmission management. The TCM (Transmission Control Module) supersedes the internal electric (Solenoids) and hydraulic (Valve Body) controls of the transmission. In other words, a faulty control module will cause a transmission not to operate correctly, even if the transmission itself, as well as its internal electrical and hydraulic controls are working perfectly fine.
It is therefore mandatory to diagnose transmission problems properly. While many transmissions do fail to to high mileage, excessive use, and other causes, some problems are actually generated by a faulty TCM or connectors, wires, and harnesses between the various vehicle control modules, or the TCM and the transmission.
We at Freddie’s Transmissions have the experience and the tools to diagnose your transmission correctly - before any further labor and repairs begin.
